During a recent gaming event hosted in China, Galax released a teaser on details surrounding a new “2017 Secret Weapon”. Their new release comes in the form of a single slot GTX 1070 card. While this is definitely a unique solution that is being offered, we just hope that Galax has taken care of the cooling, as with only one fan, and three exhaust areas, things might get rather warm, fairly quickly under load.
Cooling concerns aside, we have to commend Galax on producing a card that impresses in terms of aesthetics. Other than the looks, there is not much else that will be grabbing potential buyer’s attention. Clock speeds are reported to be the Nvidia reference speeds of 1506MHz base clock and 1683MHz boost clock, with 8GB of DDR5 video memory. Another downside to the single slot design is that you will be losing out on video connections, with Galax supplying 1 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x DisplayPort 1.4 and a single DVI-D connection. There has been no mention to availability or pricing, but rumours are circulating that a release of early 2017, with a price tag of $379.00 should be expected.
