The HTC Vive has been one of the biggest leaps forward in the future of virtual reality gaming, and is undoubtedly one of the most advanced VR headsets available. Saying that, there is still room for improvement, and fortunately one of the biggest gripes of the VR is being addressed – the feeling of being tethered to your PC.
HTC has partnered up with TPCAST to allow a wireless connection from the VR headset to the your PC which means no more worrying about tripping over cables and crashing into anything and everything in your vicinity. The news comes from Shenzhen, China, where the Global Shopping Festival hosted by online retail giant Alibaba announced the news of the wireless upgrade kit.
Unfortunately there are no exact details of just how the TPCAST integrates with the Vive, but it is promising a seamless connection with no negative impact on the performance. This is clearly a step in the right direction, but be warned that this does not come cheap at all – with prices looking to be around the £175.00 mark, this is going to be a question of just how annoying those cables are. Either way, this is a welcomed upgrade, and hopefully something that HTC can offer as a standard in the future.
