While manufacturers have been pumping out hardware that can support VR and AR applications, it seems that the content available has some catching up to do, with a lot of supported applications being a bit gimmicky and of no real use. Looking to make a change to this is the “monitorless” solution from Samsung, who have today released details on their latest creation which brings AR and VR to your everyday setup. Utilising a pair of glasses fitted with electro chromic glass, and all the necessary hardware built into the frame, users are able to view content from smartphones and PC’s all through WiFi connectivity. With all things VR/AR related, we always take the applicability of these with a grain of salt, as the current market will not shift overnight to a different way of working/gaming, however we have to applaud Samsung on the incredible idea’s they are coming out with which are sure to pave the way for the next step in augmented reality. Keep reading below for the official press release from Samsung, along with the product video.
The new Monitorless solution will be on display at the Mobile World Congress 2017 which will be taking place in Barcelona from the 28th of February till the 2nd of March.
Samsung Monitorless Press Release
Monitorless is a remote-control VR/AR solution that enables consumers to use devices such as smartphones and PCs without a monitor. The solution consists of a special pair of glasses that resemble regular sunglasses. They are used to view content from other devices such as smartphones and PCs and can be used for both Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality functionality thanks to the electro chromic glass featured on the glasses. Monitorless addresses the fact that there isn’t enough AR and VR content currently available and also enables users to play high-capacity PC games on a mobile device.
